A TASTE OF MUSIC TECH: JAZZ IMPROVISATION

By Laura B. Whitmore

Here's our second lesson from the Alfred Music Tech Series, an excerpt from the book, Playing Keyboard, Book 1. It focuses on Jazz Improvisation and includes accompaniments and guidance for students to jam along. Click here to download a PDF of the lesson and then click here to download the accompanying audio files.

Alfred's Music Tech Series is designed for late elementary to high school students who are learning the piano in a group-lab setting. No previous keyboard-playing experience is required! Playing Keyboard, Book 1 is specifically designed for use in a keyboard lab setting, integrating a variety of performance activities to enhance the learning process and including challenging activities for students who have more advanced playing experience. The method has been designed and field-tested over the past ten years by Dr. Tom Rudolph with students at both middle school and high school levels.

Alfred's Music Tech Series also includes two other books entitled, Composing Music with Notation, Book 1 and Sequencing and Music Production, Book 1. All of the books come with a companion CD that includes audio, MIDI files, or both, with hands on exercises for students. A teacher's manual with lesson plans and supplemental material is due out soon.
