In Penny Pot Students learn about money as they count combinations of coins in this fun filled program based on a title in Stuart J. Murphy's MathStart series. Students engage in carnival activities that help them learn more about using small amounts of money.
An engaging narrative, in a face-painting booth at a school carnival, shows students how coins are counted, grouped, and exchanged to a value of 50 cents. After the concept story, students play games where they collect and exchange tickets and coins. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to keep trying with visual rewards and automatic reviews.
In the Balloon Game, students collect coins to reach a target amount by popping balloons, which contain different coins. With each problem solved, students receive a ticket that can be redeemed or exchanged for money in a different activity. An onscreen Ticket Booth keeps tally of the tickets students have earned.
In the Fishing Game, students add coins of different value. Students get a fishing pole and five seconds to catch as many fish as possible. Each fish has a different value. Students submit the total value of their catch and receive tickets as a reward.
At any time, students can redeem tickets for animated prizes or coins at the Ticket Booth. Once students have collected 50 cents, they have earned money to go the Face-Painting Booth to create printable face painting designs. With this colorful and playful program, students learn the value of coins and how to use them.
