In Shapes Within Shapes students identify shapes within shapes, and then rearrange them to develop spatial sense and deepen their understanding of the properties of shapes. Students explore math concepts in challenging activities, such as identifying rectangles of an origami frog and rearranging the pieces of a hexagon to make toys of different shapes. The experience of dividing a shape into equal and unequal parts forms a foundation on which to build fraction concepts. Students make use of their skill in numbers, measurement and estimation, and geometry. Students save their work in electronic personalized journals that can be used for a part of their portfolios.
