In Spatial Relationships , students explore spatial relationships by identifying the positions of objects and creating paths between places. Students develop a spatial sense by identifying shapes, locations, and positions. They experience challenges that help them think three dimensionally, and deal with changing viewpoints. Your students will learn the language they need to communicate about the physical and natural world. They also acquire foundational skills in geometry, measurement, and map-making. Spatial sense plays an important role in mathematical thinking by helping students to communicate, reason, and solve problems. As students engage in the activities, they can save their work in work in multimedia journals where they can also record or type their ideas.
Throughout Spatial Relationships students have opportunities to:
- Identify an object from a description of its position
- Place an object to match a description of its position
- Use positional words to describe location
- Make pictures to illustrate positional words
- Make a simple map
- Draw a path, from starting point to destination
- Identify the shape of a closed path
- Compare lengths of paths
